The Ouroboros Poetry Prize

The Ouroboros Prize is an annual themed poetry contest hosted by Palette Poetry. The 2026 theme is cycles, inspired by the ouroboros as a symbol of destruction and rebirth. Poems might explore life and death, the seasons, or the beginnings and ends of relationships. The theme is open to interpretation.

Each entry can contain up to three poems, totalling under ten pages. Poems must be unpublished, including on blogs and social media. Poets writing in English anywhere in the world can enter. Simultaneous submissions and multiple entries are accepted.

The guest judge is Richard Siken, author of Crush, winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets prize.

Palette’s editors choose ten finalists and any honorable mentions. Richard Siken then selects the winner and runners-up for publication. First place receives $3,000. Second place receives $300 and third place receives $200. Finalists may also be considered for publication.

Entrants will be notified within twelve weeks of the closing date. Paid editorial feedback is available as an optional add-on.
