Summit Series Contest

The Summit Series Contest is an annual book prize hosted by Central Michigan University Press. CMICH Press is a not-for-profit publisher of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Each year’s contest has a different focus. The third annual contest is dedicated to book-length fiction by writers with ties to the Midwestern Great Lakes states.

Entries can be a story collection, one or more novellas, or a novel. There is no length requirement. The manuscript must be previously unpublished. Individual pieces that have appeared in magazines or anthologies may be included. Translations and previously published or self-published collections are not eligible. Writers may enter more than one manuscript, with each one submitted separately and paying its own fee.

The winning manuscript will be published by CMICH Press as part of the Summit Series. The Summit Series Editorial Board, made up of Central Michigan University faculty, selects the finalists. Previous winners include Stephanie Carpenter’s novel Moral Treatment (2024) and Patricia Killelea’s poetry collection Solace: Poems from the Northwoods (2025).
