2026/2027 Fiction, Non-Fiction & Memoir Contest

The Fiction, Non-Fiction & Memoir Contest is an annual book manuscript contest hosted by IML Publications, a boutique hybrid publisher based in Santa Barbara, California. The contest seeks unpublished manuscripts of memoir, fiction and non-fiction. It also has a call for Indigenous writers, whose work may be considered for publication through the Global Voice Foundation.

Entrants submit the first 50 double-spaced pages of their manuscript and a one-page synopsis by email. Manuscripts must be unpublished, and self-published books are not eligible.

Finalists will be announced on 30 January 2027 and asked to submit their full manuscript of up to 100,000 words by 28 February 2027. Entries are read by Dr Michael Lechuga and Jacqueline Gay Walley.

The entry fee is $40, or $10 for Indigenous writers.

The contest offers $1,000 in prizes. Winners will be announced on 30 April 2027. The 2025 winner was Chinwe Mary Okoye for the memoir Redbone.
