The Bio-Sanctuary Contest is a writing contest hosted by AgArts, a US nonprofit that promotes a healthy food system through the arts. The contest seeks writing about bio-sanctuaries, which AgArts describes as refuges that allow plants or animals to flourish. A bio-sanctuary can be as small as a balcony bird feeder or as large as a wetland. Other examples include a pocket prairie, a windbreak, a mason bee house or a dead hedge.
Entrants submit a poem or piece of nonfiction of up to 500 words. Along with the writing, entrants must submit one to three photos documenting a specific bio-sanctuary they have enhanced or created. Entries are submitted through an online form on the AgArts website.
The winner receives $1,000 and the runner-up receives $500. Winners will be published in The Blazing Star Journal and on the Emerging Voices Substack page. The judge is Thomas Fox Averill.
