The Writers’ & Artists’ Short Story Competition is an annual short story contest hosted by Writers & Artists, the publisher behind the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook. Entrants submit an original, unpublished short story for adults on the theme of celebration. The competition is open to all ages, professions, and nationalities. Entrants must not have an existing publishing contract or agent representation for the submitted work.
This year’s competition is judged by Daisy Johnson, author of Fen, Everything Under, and Long Wave, and the youngest person ever shortlisted for the Booker Prize. The winning story and two runners-up will be announced on the Writers & Artists blog. Entrants must have a free account on the Writers & Artists website to submit work.
The winner receives a place on an Arvon Residential Writing Week, an annual subscription to the Writers & Artists online listings service, a W&A masterclass of their choice, and a copy of the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook 2027. Second and third place winners each receive a masterclass and an annual online listings subscription. Shortlisted writers receive a 6-month online listings subscription. The winning and shortlisted entries will also be published on the Writers & Artists site.
