The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest 2026

The SmokeLong Grand Micro Contest, known as The Mikey, is an annual competition hosted by SmokeLong Quarterly celebrating the best micro fiction and nonfiction online. The grand prize winner is automatically nominated for Best Small Fictions and any other prize the editors deem appropriate.

Entries are limited to 250 words or fewer per micro. Writers may submit up to 2 or up to 4 micros in a single document, depending on entry tier. Fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid narratives that lean poetic are all eligible, though work with line breaks is not considered. Both previously published and unpublished micros are accepted, and simultaneous submissions are allowed.

The grand prize winner receives $1000, with $500 for second place, $300 for third, and $150 for each finalist. All finalists and placers will be published in the December 2026 issue of SmokeLong.
