The competition is organized by Overland, an Australian literary and cultural magazine.
Supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, and named after the late Neilma Gantner, this prize seeks excellent short fiction of up to 3000 words themed around the notion of ‘travel’; imaginative, creative and literary interpretations are strongly encouraged.
This competition is open to all writers, nationally and internationally, at any stage of their writing career.
Stories must be unpublished (including online). Stories that have won or are under consideration in other competitions are not eligible.
The winner will receive $5,000 AUD. The winning story will be published in Overland. Two runners-up will each receive $750 AUD.
We are keen to encourage quality submissions, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid. They have free and paid versions and are the best writing software we know to help improve grammar, readability and check for repetition, ‘sticky’ sentences and suggest alternatives.
