Event Details
The Henshaw Press Short Story Competition is a quarterly fiction competition currently overseen by Hobeck Books, a small independent publisher based in Staffordshire. It is open to entrants aged over 16, writing short stories on any subject.
Entrants submit a story of up to 2,000 words with no more than five stories accepted from any one writer per round. Entries must be original, previously unpublished, and not AI-generated; author details must be kept on a separate page from the story itself. An optional paid critique of any entered story is available for an additional fee.
Prizes are £200, £100, and £50 for first, second, and third place, and prize-winning stories are published on the Henshaw Press website and offered a place in the next Henshaw Anthology. All profits from the competition go toward buying books for a chosen school each year.
