Event Details
The Exeter Novel Prize is a novel competition hosted by Word Kitchen. It is open to writers anywhere in the world who are not represented by a literary agent at the closing date. Published, self-published and unpublished authors are all eligible.
Entrants submit the opening of their novel, up to 10,000 words, together with a synopsis of up to 500 words. The opening must be continuous rather than a selection of scenes. The synopsis should outline the plot and structure of the whole novel. The novel does not need to be complete. Entries must be in English. Writers may enter more than one novel.
Literary agent Hellie Ogden, head of the book department at WME’s London office, selects the shortlist and the winner.
The winner receives £1,000, and five finalists each receive £100. Entry with an appraisal report costs £150. A small number of bursary places are available.
