Tree of Life Books Fantasy Short Story Contest

The Tree of Life Fantasy Short Story Contest is an inaugural fantasy fiction competition hosted by Tree of Life Books. The contest seeks adult fantasy short stories across all subgenres, with a particular interest in narratives inspired by community, cultural heritage, and diverse cultural experience. Guest judge and USA Today bestselling author I.V. Ophelia will select the top three winners from a shortlist compiled by the Tree of Life reading team.

Stories must be between 3,000 and 7,500 words. Entrants must be 18 or older. Simultaneous submissions are permitted provided the author withdraws if the story is accepted elsewhere. Entrants may submit multiple stories, though only one per author is eligible for publication or a cash prize.

A selection of standout stories, including all three cash-prize winners and the shortlist, will be published in Tree of Life’s first fantasy short story anthology. The first-place winner also receives editorial feedback and an anthology cover design based on their story; second and third place receive editorial feedback. Tree of Life Books retains first North American serial rights to selected stories, with authors keeping full copyright.
