The Novel Opening Contest lets you pit the first 1,000 words of your published book against the openings of books by authors all over the world in any genre. If you have what it takes to grab a reader’s attention within your first few pages, you’ve got a shot at winning one of three prizes that include cash awards!

Submission Guidelines:

► Books of any genre, fiction or nonfiction, are welcome (fantasy, self-help, romance, memoir, etc.).

► Each entry must be in PDF format.

► Each PDF entry must contain only two things: The book’s ISBN and the first 1,000 words of the book.

► Each book opening entered must be for a book that is currently available for sale to the public (not discontinued, out of print, unpublished, etc.).

We are keen to encourage quality submissions, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid.
