New Writers Novel Prize

The New Writers Novel Prize is run by NewWriters.org.uk in association with The Novel Factory, and is open to any theme or genre of novel or novella written for adults or young adults. It is judged by Katja Kaine, author and creator of The Novel Factory writing software.

Entrants submit the opening 500 words of an unpublished novel or novella, written in English, with no author name or other identifying information on the entry. Entries must not have already won a prize in another competition, though shortlisting or longlisting elsewhere is allowed.

The winner receives £1,000 plus lifetime access to The Novel Factory, with £300 and a 12-month Standard subscription for second place and £200 and a 12-month Basic subscription for third. Winning entries are published on NewWriters.org.uk and in the New Writers Anthology. All entrants receive a 30% discount on Novel Factory subscriptions.

10% of entry fee proceeds will be donated to charity, split equally between First Story and The Funzi & Bodo Trust.
