Book Pipeline Unpublished Contest

The Book Pipeline Unpublished Contest is run by Book Pipeline, a division of Pipeline Media Group that has connected writers to publishers, agents, and the film industry since 2014. Now in its 7th year, the contest reviews unpublished manuscripts across ten categories: Comic & Graphic Novel, General Fiction, Horror/Mystery/Thriller, Literary, Middle Grade & Chapter Book, Nonfiction & Memoir, Picture Book, Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and Young Adult.

Submission requirements vary by category. Fiction, Memoir, and similar categories require the first 5,000 words (approximately) plus a full story synopsis; Comics and Graphic Novels require 20–28 pages of formatted script or manuscript plus a synopsis; Nonfiction requires a full book proposal; Picture Books require the full manuscript plus a brief conceptual overview. A completed manuscript is not required at entry for fiction (though it is recommended for memoir). Entrants retain all rights to their work regardless of placement. International entrants are accepted, and simultaneous submissions elsewhere are permitted.

Entry uses a tiered pricing structure based on submission date, with six deadlines running from a Pre-register tier (30 January 2026, $35) through an Extended tier (15 October 2026, $70).

Winners (one per category) receive $2,500 each, plus ongoing development and mentoring from the Book Pipeline executive team, industry circulation to a network of agents, publishers, and editors (a partial list is published on the organiser’s site), consideration for film/TV adaptation where applicable, and invitations to private Symposium events. Book Pipeline states it does not take a percentage of any resulting publication deal or advance, and does not act as the author’s agent or publisher.
