The Summer Holidays Writing Competition

The Summer Holidays Writing Competition is a youth writing contest hosted by Octo Books, open to authors under the age of sixteen. Entrants submit a short story, poem, article, or other original piece of writing inspired by summer, holidays, adventure, or imagination. Judges assess entries on creativity, originality, writing quality, and how engaging the piece is.

Entries must be original, between 500 and 1,000 words, and suitable for readers aged twelve and under. Entrants may optionally submit an accompanying book cover for extra credit, provided it is not AI-generated. Only one entry is permitted per person.

Winners are announced on the Octo Books website. First place receives website publication, a digital certificate, a competition t-shirt, a notebook, a pen, and a magnet. Second place receives the same package minus the t-shirt, and third place receives a digital certificate, notebook, and pen. Physical prizes are shipped to UK residents only.
