Sundress Publications

Sundress Publications is an independent, volunteer-run poetry press running an open reading period for full-length poetry manuscripts. It’s part of a rotating annual submissions calendar that also includes chapbook contests, a broadside contest, and a prose reading period. Sundress especially encourages authors from marginalized and underrepresented communities to submit, including writers of color, trans and nonbinary writers, and disabled writers.

Manuscripts must be 48 to 80 single-spaced pages. Work cannot have previously appeared in any full-length collection, including a self-published one, though individual pieces may have appeared in anthologies, chapbooks, or journals. Manuscripts translated from another language are not accepted. Simultaneous submissions are allowed. Submissions are open only to authors who reside in the United States.

At least two manuscripts will be selected for publication, with a standard publication contract that includes 25 author copies plus any additional copies at cost. The first submission from any writer is free between 1 and 14 June 2026; after that, the reading fee is $15 per manuscript, waived for anyone who purchases or pre-orders a Sundress title or broadside. The fee is waived entirely for BIPOC writers for the full reading period. Authors may submit multiple manuscripts, each accompanied by its own fee or waiver.
