The May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize 2026 is organised by Bauhan Publishing, an independent publisher based in Peterborough, New Hampshire, USA, dedicated to poetry and regional literary works. Named in honour of poet and writer May Sarton, the annual prize recognises outstanding book-length poetry collections and awards publication plus cash.
This competition accepts original, previously unpublished poetry manuscripts written in English. Manuscripts should be 50–80 pages in length and may include poems previously published in journals or anthologies. Translations and co-authored collections are not eligible. Entrants may submit multiple manuscripts with separate fees.
The contest is international, open to poets worldwide who meet the submission criteria, with blind judging by a notable poet appointed each year. Winning manuscripts are published by Bauhan Publishing and distributed with other spring titles.
The first-place winner receives a $1,000 prize, book publication by Bauhan Publishing, 50 author copies, and distribution through the press’s channels. Finalists may also receive recognition as determined by the judge.
