Dear Aliens – A Writing Contest for Humans

Dear Aliens is a creative writing contest run by the team at funnest.world. The premise is simple and wonderfully strange: the aliens are coming, and they’ve asked for a single written document from humanity — the one thing they’ll read before they arrive.

What that document should be is entirely up to the entrant. A family introduction, a history of humanity, a short story, a joke, a description of a sunset — anything goes, as long as the writer believes it would be a good piece of writing for aliens to encounter.

Submissions must be under 1,000 words, written in English, and physically mailed in. Writers who cannot afford postage are invited to contact the organizers directly.

The contest is free to enter, open internationally, and limited to one submission per person. Winners will be announced on 1 June 2026.

Prize: $2,000 USD for first place; $250 each for second and third place.
