Salamander Magazine

Salamander is a literary organization that publishes a biannual magazine of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and works in translation. It was founded in 1992 and aims to publish work by writers deserving of a wider audience at any stage in their careers as well as to focus intentionally on inclusivity and outreach to marginalized writers.

Kweli Journal

Kweli’s mission is to nurture emerging writers of color and create opportunities for their voices to be recognized and valued. By creating a community of Black, Indigenous and POC artists and programming based on artistic excellence and rigor, Kweli empowers writers to share stories that engage and impact our communities. Their vision is for a world where the narratives being told reflect the truth of our histories and the possibilities for our future.

The First Line Journal

The purpose of The First Line is to jump start the imagination–to help writers break through the block that is the blank page. Each issue contains short stories that stem from a common first line; it also provides a forum for discussing favorite first lines in literature. The First Line is an exercise in creativity for writers and a chance for readers to see how many different directions we can take when we start from the same place.

Connecticut River Review

Connecticut River Review is a national journal of poetry, and encourages all poets in writing and publishing their poetry. The group has a long tradition of excellence in publishing the work of poets from Connecticut and around the nation.

Waymark Literary Magazine

Waymark seeks to mark the lives of readers and writers alike through a commitment to publishing fiction, literary nonfiction, poetry, and art of the spirit and heart. The publication is run by undergraduate students and welcomes online submissions from any undergraduate artist in North America and any affiliated territories. The magazine especially encourages writers from minority communities to submit their works, as well as first generation college students.

F(r)iction

F(r)iction is a triannual publication that boasts work from both industry legends and emerging writers. Each issue is carefully curated to evaluate an important cultural topic from vastly different perspectives. We accept short fiction, creative nonfiction, flash fiction, comics, and poetry submissions all year round, and also host contests featuring guest judges and cash prizes twice a year (each spring and fall). Every piece published in F(r)iction is also accompanied by custom artwork, making our journal a visual odyssey from cover to cover!
