Event Details

Kulturally LIT Inc. is thrilled to announce the call for submissions for the inaugural Diaspora Book Awards, celebrating emerging literary artists of the African Diaspora. The organizer invites authors whose books have been published and copyrighted up to January 2024 to submit their works for consideration. This is your chance to have your unique voice and compelling narrative honored on a prestigious platform dedicated to recognizing the richness and diversity of our stories.

The event is open to US-based authors who:

  • identify as Black, including African and/or of the AfroDiaspora (i.e. African American, Afro-Latino, Afro-Asian, etc.)
  • have published English language books that are available for sale wherever books are sold independently and in bookstores.
  • have sold and distributed 250 – 1000 books within six months. No Authors who have sold more than 5000 books or more

Books published after January 2024 will be eligible for the 2025 awards. The awards ceremony will take place in December this year in New Haven, Connecticut.

Prizes will be awarded to three authors in each of the following 6 categories:

  • Fiction – Literature created from the imagination
  • Poetry – Book of poetry at least 40 pages
  • Young Adult – 12 to 18 year old
  • Children’s Book – Birth to 12 years old
  • Nonfiction – No cookbooks, self-help books, or religious/spirituality books
  • Graphic Novel – Long-form work of sequential art, completed as a book

All book submissions are to be in final published print form. No Audiobooks.

We are keen to encourage quality, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid. They have free and paid versions and are the best writing software we know to help improve grammar, readability and check for repetition, ‘sticky’ sentences and suggest alternatives.
