Weatherglass Novella Prize

The Weatherglass Novella Prize is organised by Weatherglass Books, an independent UK-based literary press. The competition invites submissions of original novellas written in English, with manuscripts required to fall between 20,000 and 40,000 words.

There is no set theme, and the prize is open to writers worldwide. Entries are judged by a panel including established literary figures (for 2027, judge Ali Smith is named). The competition focuses on high-quality literary fiction and aims to champion the novella as a distinct and valuable form.

There is a maximum of 3 submissions per person.

The shortlist will be announced Autumn 2026. An advance of £500 will be paid to the winning author(s) and the winning entry(ies) will be published within 12 months of announcement
