Event Details
The Pitch Mag Young Sports Journalist Competition is organised by Pitch Magazine, a UK-based sports publication that showcases writing on sport, culture and current issues. This annual competition invites aspiring young journalists to tackle topical sports-related questions with well-argued articles and gives them a platform to be published both online and in the print magazine’s Summer Issue.
The contest is open to writers aged 14–21. Entrants must write an article in English of 700–800 words, answering one of the age-group questions set by the organisers (e.g., debates on mental health, sports betting, sports-washing, rule-bending and other relevant topics). Entries are judged anonymously by a panel of established sports writers and journalists.
Winners are selected across the age brackets and receive publication in Pitch Magazine, recognition on the site, and a £50 cash prize. Some winners in older categories may also be offered work experience opportunities at Pitch HQ.
Top prize: Publication in Pitch Magazine and a £50 cash prize (plus possible work experience)
