The Octo Books Writing Competition

The Octo Books Writing Competition is run by Octo Books, a UK-based independent publishing company. This year’s theme is Hidden Worlds, and entrants are invited to imagine and write about an original world of their own creation — underwater kingdoms, secret space colonies, underground tunnels, or anything else their imagination conjures. All entries must be suitable for readers aged 12 and under.

The competition is open internationally and has two age categories: Rising Authors (ages 7–17) and Adult Storytellers (ages 18+). Entries must be submitted via a Google Form in PDF format. Stories are judged on creativity, originality, use of theme, clarity, voice, and age-appropriate skill.

There are no cash prizes — winners in both categories receive a digital certificate and recognition at the Winners Reveal event on 13 June. First-place winners in each category are also published on the Octo Books website. Physical prizes (including a competition pencil case, pen, and T-shirt) are only shipped to UK residents due to shipping costs.
