The Porter Fleming Literary Competition is an annual writing contest administered by the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, with support from the Porter Fleming Foundation. The competition honors the memory of Porter Fleming, a notable philanthropist of Augusta, through its establishment and ongoing support.
All entries must be original, previously unpublished in print or online media, and not accepted by any publisher at the time they are entered.
Who can enter: Writers ages 18 and older who reside in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington D.C.
Competition categories:
- Fiction—Short stories only (2,500 words maximum)
- Nonfiction—Article or essay (2,500 words maximum)
- Poetry—(Up to three poems per entry, not to exceed five pages total per entry)
- One-Act Play—(Professional format required; limited to fifteen pages, double-spaced)
The organizer is offering $7,000 is cash awards for the winners across categories.
