Event Details

The Peter Porter Poetry Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative and respected poetry awards. It honours the life and work of the great Australian poet Peter Porter (1929–2010), an honoured contributor to ABR for many years. The contest is organized by the Australian Book Review.

Poets are invited to submit original poems of up to 60 lines, written in English. Poems can be on any subject and in any style. Poems must not have been previously published.

All poets writing in English are eligible to enter. There is no age limit. Entries must be submitted online via the ABR website.

Each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of AU$30, or AU$20 for current ABR subscribers.

The winner will receive AU$6,000. The other four shortlisted poets will each receive AU$1,000.

We are keen to encourage quality, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid. They have free and paid versions and are the best writing software we know to help improve grammar, readability and spelling check for repetition, ‘sticky’ sentences and suggest alternatives.
