New Writers Flash Fiction Competition 2026

The New Writers Flash Fiction Competition 2026 is organised by New Writers, a UK-based writing platform that runs international short fiction contests benefiting both new and experienced authors. The competition seeks imaginative, thought-provoking flash fiction stories of very short length.

Submissions must be original, unpublished short fiction written in English. Each story should be no more than 300 words (excluding the title). There is no required theme beyond strong craft and imagination. A limited number of free entries are available for low-income writers (subject to terms). Winners will have their stories published on the New Writers website and in a future New Writers Anthology.

The competition is international and open to any writer aged 18 or older at the time of entry. Submissions are judged anonymously by the New Writers team and guest readers, with prizes awarded to the top three entries.

Top prize: £1,100 and publication on NewWriters.org.uk and in the New Writers Anthology.
