The Limnisa Short Story Competition is organised by Limnisa, an international writing community based in Greece that celebrates short fiction and offers unique experiential prizes alongside cash-equivalent awards. This year’s theme asks writers to be inspired by a line from a poem by Mahmoud Darwish — the chosen line must appear somewhere in your story.
Entrants must submit original, unpublished short stories in English that reflect creativity and narrative strength. Stories must be between 500 and 1,500 words (title excluded). Multiple entries (up to three) are allowed with the appropriate contribution fee.
Prizes:
- 1st place: A full week at a Limnisa writing retreat by the sea (full board, single room, some meals excluded).
- 2nd & 3rd places: 50% off a stay at a Limnisa retreat.
- 4th & 5th places: 25% off a retreat of your choice (prizes valid for 2026 or 2027)
Results will be announced on www.limnisa.com on Sunday March 21st, 2026/
