Event Details
The competition is organized by Overland, an Australian literary and cultural magazine.
This is a prize for original pieces of short fiction written in English, up to 3000 words in length. The prize is open to all writers (located in Australia or elsewhere).
Stories must be unpublished (including online). Stories that have won or are under consideration in other competitions are not eligible.
The winner will receive $5,000 AUD and their short story will be published in Overland. Two runners-up will each receive $750 AUD.
We are keen to encourage quality, so suggest writers to check their stories before submitting using Prowritingaid. They have free and paid versions and are the best writing software we know to help improve grammar, readability and check for repetition, ‘sticky’ sentences and suggest alternatives.
