Wales Poetry Award

Event Details

After 55 years of publishing contemporary poetry in 212 issues (and counting) of its magazine, Poetry Wales hosts its second year of Wales Poetry Award, a national competition to discover the very best international contemporary poetry.  Wales Poetry Award is open to single poem entries from new and established poets from Wales and beyond, with 3 awards and 10 highly commended prizes to be won.

An entry fee of £5 applies for each poem submitted and you may submit up to 5 poems.  This competition is free to enter for writers of  low-income backgrounds residing in the UK, from households earning £16k or less per year.

The year’s competition will be judged by four-time T.S. Eliot shortlisted and Forward Prize shortlisted poet Pascale Petit. Pascale Petit was born in Paris, grew up in France and Wales and lives in Cornwall. She is of French/Welsh/Indian heritage. Her eighth collection, Tiger Girl (forthcoming from Bloodaxe Books on 3 September 2020), won an RSL Literature Matters Award while in progress, and she won the 2020 Keats-Shelley Poetry Prize with a poem from the book, ‘Indian Paradise Flycatcher’. Tiger Girl is on the shortlist for the 2020 Forward Prize for Best Collection.
