Ex Ophidia Press is a fine literary press, specializing in the publication of contemporary poetry and fiction by distinguished writers in fine editions. The Press was founded in 2014 by Richard-Gabriel Rummonds, the internationally acclaimed author and handpress printer.As proprietor of the Plain Wrapper Press in Verona, Italy, Mr. Rummonds worked with Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning writers, serving as editor and designer, as well as printer of their text in superb limited editions. His authors included Jorge Luis Borges, John Cheever, Anthony Burgess, Italo Calvino, Dana Gioia, Jack Spicer, Manuel Mujica Láinez, and Paul Zweig, among others.He brings the same attention to detail and standards of excellence to Ex Ophidia Press publications as he did to limited editions books he printed on iron handpresses.
Guidelines for the Fifth Annual Poetry Prize
This award typically draws around 300 submissions.
Opening date for submissions: May 1, 2020.
Deadline: August 31, 2020.
Fee: $25.00 USD for each manuscript.
The prize: The winning author will receive a $1,000 cash prize, book publication, and 15 author copies.
The finalists: In addition to the winner, there will be 9 finalists.
Eligibility: Open to all English-language authors worldwide (of any age, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation) for a book of poetry.
Specifications: Suggested length of the manuscript is between 64 and 84 numbered pages including a Title Page and a Table of Contents. Single-spaced Word documents ONLY will be accepted (please, no PDF documents). No translations. Do not include any illustrations or graphics. By submitting a manuscript to this contest, all authors attest that the work is their own.
Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted anonymously with the title only on the first page. Be sure to include a cover letter with the title of your manuscript, your name, and your contact information. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through Submittable (see the link below). Manuscripts submitted by third parties will not be eligible.
The judge: Richard-Gabriel Rummonds, an internationally acclaimed handpress printer and author of 14 books, will be the final judge of the prize-winning manuscripts.
Book Publication date: Early 2021. The winning volume will be published by Ex Ophidia Press and distributed by the Press and through Amazon.com.
